KULAI, 17 Jan. – The Johor State Government urges all local authorities in the state to provide an online service kiosk, iPayment Kiosk, to ease and facilitate tax payments in line with aspirations towards becoming a digital government.

State Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman, Datuk Md Jais Sarday, said the state government welcomes the Kulai Municipal Council’s (MPKu) initiative in being the first local authority to implement the kiosk’s usage for the comfort of users who don’t have to line up at payment counters.

“We propose that all local authorities implement this initiative as part of our transformation into a digital government that was tabled in the 2018 state budget by Menteri Besar Dato’ Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

“In the context of today’s governance, we have entered a system of living where the management of a government or of a person’s personal life itself is digitalised. This initiative is a part of the digitalising efforts on a local authority level.

“The time has come as we see the need to shift with the times and this is among the services that we can improve.

“This is because local authorities have two functions, being enforcement of law and providing services to taxpayers,” he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after officiating the MPKu E-Payment Kiosk at its premises here, today. Also present was MPKu President, Farizal Ismail.

Jais also urged for the kiosks to be placed in public locations, besides local authority premises, as it will help to expedite transactions and can also be used outside office hours. – Berita Harian.
